8604 Series Variable Stator Vane Actuator

Used for VSV positioning and control on Frame 5001 and 5002 gas turbine engines.

The 8604 Series VSV Actuator is attached to the compressor case by means of a clevis and to the VSV leverage arm by means of a spherical rod end bearing. The actuator consists of a double acting hydraulic cylinder controlled by an electrohydraulic servo valve. The servo valve accepts a milliamp signal from the controller and directs flow to the hydraulic cylinder. The servo valve requires a 0 to 8 mA signal to retract the actuator. The servo valve is designed with a null bias on the second stage such that upon the loss of electrical power to the servo valve, the actuator will extend to its maximum stroke. The actuator utilizes an LVDT to provide position feedback to the controller.
